Salinas, Calif. – Many Monterey County residents are still furious two days after the Board of Supervisors voted to not place the General Plan initiative on the June primary ballot. One of the initiative's leading backers, LandWatch Monterey County, has already filed suit, saying supervisors broke the law by not putting the measure on the ballot. So what legal ground is the county standing on? KAZU's Ben Adler talks with Monterey County counsel Charles McKee to find out.

Salinas, CA – The fierce battle over future Monterey County land use took a major twist Tuesday night. The Board of Supervisors voted 3-to-2 to not place the proposed General Plan initiative on the June ballot. Initiative supporters had gathered about 15-thousand signatures through the referendum process, and supervisors appeared to only have two choices - adopt the initiative as law, or let the entire county vote. Instead, they did neither. KAZU's Ben Adler reports.

Monterey, CA – It's not the Tour de France, but organizers of the Amgen Tour of California hope to start a cycling tradition with this week's inaugural bike race down the California coast. Today's 4th stage, 130 miles from Monterey to San Luis Obispo, brought a major international cycling race to the Monterey Peninsula for the first time. KAZU's Ben Adler reports.

Activists are gathering signatures to put a measure on the November ballot that would raise the minimum wage $2.50 to $9.25 an hour - with future increases depending on the rate of inflation. Monterey, CA – California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger brought his 200-billion-dollar Strategic Growth Plan to the Monterey Peninsula today. He spoke to a gathering of school superintendents from throughout the state this morning and then toured Seaside High School. Later, Schwarzenegger met with local officials to discuss the impact of his series of bond measures on the Monterey Bay Area. KAZU's Ben Adler reports.
