Event Description

Matthew Sleeth, MD, author of Reforesting Faith and Serve God, Save the Planet, and cofounder of BlessedE

Along with reducing fossil fuel consumption, planting trees is one of the most effective ways to act on climate! Gather 8:45-9:00 am for a meet and greet with complimentary coffee, muffins, etc., then a one-hour presentation 9-10 am by Matthew Sleeth, MD, author of Reforesting Faith, and City of Monterey Interim Forester Justin Prouty. At 10 am, carpools will leave for Veterans Memorial Park, where all who are able will plant trees along trails leading from the park from 10:15 am until 12 noon. At noon, Dr. Sleeth, cofounder of BlessedEarth.org, will lead a "blessing of the trees," followed by a complimentary picnic lunch (your choice of sandwich--specify your preference in your RSVP). Open to the public, including people of all faiths. All ages welcome; youth under 14 must be accompanied by parent/guardian, or 4-H or Scout leader, or other responsible adult. RSVPs are requested so enough trees, sandwiches, etc. can be provided for all participants, and to help with carpool planning.
