Event Description

Monterey County Free Libraries Onbline and Curbside Services

The following include important updates about Monterey County Free Library Services now available for you:

You can now return your checked-out library items to any MCFL branch. Fines on items that were checked-out before shelter-in-place are not being accrued or charged.

Are you ready to receive traditional library materials like books, videos and talking books? These library materials are available to you now by one of two ways:

Option One -- Library by Mail

Most items typically borrowed in person at the library can be delivered to you by mail, including the following categories:
• Adult
• Young Adult
• Children’s Materials
• Large-print Books
• Talking Books
• DVD’s

MCFL will send library materials by mail to residents in Monterey County who have a valid library card. Postage for delivery and pick up is prepaid, so there is no cost to you.

If you need a valid library card, you can access an application for on-line completion at the MCFL’s website and the following address: https://www.co.monterey.ca.us/government/departments-i-z/library.

Option Two -- Curbside Pickup

Curbside Pickup is currently under pilot at various branches. If you have a hold for a book or a DVD via MCFL’s system, an MCFL staff member will call you to describe all of your options for pickup.

To try out either of the Library by Mail or Curbside Pickup services, please use the following steps:
• Access the MCFL’s catalog of materials from their website
• Place a hold on your desired item(s)
• From the Drop-down Menu under “Place a Request”, select either your preferred branch (for curbside pickup) or select Library by Mail

You will soon receive and have library materials in your hands!

You can learn how to place a hold on materials by visiting: https://www.co.monterey.ca.us/government/departments-i-z/library.

You can text or chat online with a librarian Monday thru Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00pm or email your questions to a staff person. You can also access many excellent online resources for free with your library card.
