Volunteers needed in response to the Lightning Fires

The Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County is registering individuals interested in providing volunteer support in response to the Lightning Fires.

The Volunteer Center has opened its Emergency Volunteer Station. The agency is in close contact with the Office of Emergency Services, the Red Cross and Animal Services and has identified several critical volunteer needs. Please consider stepping out in support of this community during this challenging time.

The agency is currently pre-registrating volunteers should the need for help arise in response the fire. Animal Services has an immediate need for phone and in person reception support to welcome individuals and their animals.

Volunteers are also needed for a variety of non-techinical duties at this time including staffing the emergency shelters that have been established throughout the county. Community members can register by visiting www.scvolunteercenter.org and clicking the volunteer button.

Additionally, Community Members can call the Volunteer Center at (831) 427-5070 to to inquire about volunteer needs.

In addition to supporting the recruitment effort for untrained Emergency Response Volunteers, the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County plays the critical role of helping divert the volunteer inquiry calls from Santa Cruz County’s First Responder Agencies including The Fire Depatment, The Red Cross, Animal Services, etc. This allows these essential agencies to focus on the critical needs of the region’s Evacuees and Fire Fighters.
