Seymour Marine Discovery Center’s “Labside Chats: A Conversation with a Scientist” featuring Dr. Adina Paytan on Thursday, January 14th at 11:00am …
Tune in for the Seymour Center’s next Labside Chat with Doctor Adina Paytan, Research Professor with the Institute of Marine Sciences at UC Santa Cruz, on Thursday, January 14th, 2021 at 11:00am (PST).
We will be exploring the fascinating field of Chemical Oceanography and learning how chemical elements are transferred between living organisms and the marine environment. Join us to discover what this process reveals about previous and present climate and oceanography records, and how human impacts to the biogeochemical cycles can cause long-term changes to the ocean.
Join the conversation! Submit your questions in advance for Doctor Paytan, then watch the conversation to hear the answers during the live chat.
Help us put together questions such as:
• What is paleoceanography, and what can it reveal about Earth’s past climate and marine environments?
• How do nutrients and trace metals impact the growth of organisms in freshwater and marine ecosystems?
• What are biogeochemical cycles, and why are they important to understanding human impacts to the ocean?
• Why are isotopes important to understanding biogeochemical cycles?

Labside Chats are live streamed the second and fourth Thursday of every month (excluding holidays), and are offered at no charge.
