CALIFORNIA

4:10 p.m.

As of June 14, California has 151,452 confirmed cases of COVID-19. 5,089 people have died from the coronavirus. That is an increase of 26 deaths and 2,597 front he day before. Local health departments have reported 12,237 confirmed positive cases in health care workers and 74 deaths statewide. There have been 2,868,182 tests conducted in California

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY

10:30 a.m.

Santa Cruz County is allowing expanded personal care services to resume Friday, June 19. Expanded personal services include hair and nail salons, estheticians, skin care, cosmetology, electrology, microblading, waxing, body art, tattoo parlors, body piercing shops and massage therapy. The county says businesses and professionals should follow state guidance in order to minimize risk to clients and providers. The county is also emphasizing the importance of social distancing protocols.

MONTEREY COUNTY

2:55 p.m.

Monterey County’s Great Plates Delivered program has been extended through July 10. It was scheduled to end June 10 but the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is allowing the program in California to continue through at least July 10. The state can reapply for extensions, but must do so in 30-day periods. The program partners with local restaurants to provide home delivery of up to three nutritious meals a day, seven days a week for adults 65 and older and adults 60-64 who are at high-risk from COVID-19. The program is presently serving 139 seniors throughout the county, but is able to serve up to 200. Those wishing to participate in the program can call 211 for assistance to register.

11 a.m.

SPCA Monterey will be hosting some free food bank events in the coming weeks in Greenfield and Prunedale. The Greenfield event is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Patriot Park. And the Prunedale event will happen on Saturday, June 27, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Grange Hall, (17890 Moro Road). SPCA team members will load at least two weeks of food into your vehicle. They have a variety of food types. The SPCA also offers free pet food every Wednesday and Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the actual SPCA.

10:35 a.m.

The Monterey County District Attorney’s office has announced that The Tuck Box restaurant, located in Carmel-by-the-Sea, and its owner Jeffrey Le Towt (collectively, “The Tuck Box”) have agreed to a stipulated final judgment that includes payment of up to $35,000 in civil penalties to resolve The Tuck Box’s violations of state and local COVID-19 emergency health orders. The violations included: providing dine-in restaurant service when such activity was prohibited by emergency health orders, failing to follow social distancing protocols such as maintaining six feet in between tables inside and outside the restaurant, and employees failing to wear face coverings while working.

Monterey County is currently reporting 995 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of June 15. The county says that is an increase of 46 cases over a 24 hour period. Fatalities have reached 12. 86 people have required hospitalization and 570 have recovered. 14,814 tests have been conducted.
