This page is no longer being updated. It includes resources for those affected by the River Fire. 

The River Fire broke out on August 16, 2020 and burned 48,088 acres. Firefighters fully contained the fire on September 4, 2020.

Fire survivors can find resources at Monterey County's Virtual Local Assistance Center. This site includes federal, state and local resources on many aspects of recovery including information on replacing vital documents, permits for rebuilding and post-fire cleanup. The Virtual Local Assistance Center also includes information on finacial assistance available for fire survivors.

Those who were affected by the Carmel Fire, including those who lost their homes, can apply for aid from FEMA. The deadline is October 21. Visit disasterassistance.gov or download the FEMA app to start your application.

For those who are returning home after evacuation, Monterey County Officials and Cal Fire have a few tips for things to check around the house

Acreage: 48,088 acres (as of 7 p.m. on 9/4)

Containment: 100% 

30 structures were destroyed and 13 were damaged, including 13 homes destroyed and 11 homes damaged.
