SANTA CRUZ COUNTY
6:30 p.m.
This week, a 55-room hotel in the city of Santa Cruz opens to serve homeless seniors or those who are medically vulnerable. This new facility joins two other hotels that are now open in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 among homeless people in the Santa Cruz area.
6:20 p.m.
As of May 17, there are 159 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among Santa Cruz County residents. That marks an increase of 10 cases since Friday’s report. Fatalities remain at two people, 24 have required hospitalization and 124 have recovered from the virus. 5,883 negative tests have been recorded in the county.
MONTEREY COUNTY
6:15 p.m.
As of May 16, there are 341 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among Monterey County residents. That’s an increase of 13 cases since the county’s previous report. Fatalities remain at 8 people, 46 have required hospitalization and 226 have recovered from the virus. Local labs have conducted 5,447 tests in the county as of May 16.
CALIFORNIA
6:10 p.m.
The California Department of Public Health says as of May 16, there are 78,839 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state. 3,261 people have died. That’s an increase of 57 deaths since May 15.
