CALIFORNIA

California has, as of June 15, 153,560 confirmed cases of COVID-19. 5,121 people have died from the coronavirus. That is an increase of 32 deaths and 2,108 cases from the day before. Local health departments have reported 12,295 confirmed positive cases in health care workers and 75 deaths statewide. There have been 2,937,755 tests conducted in California.
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY
3:55 p.m.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County will be hosting a community food distribution this Friday, June 19, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Last week they distributed nearly 250,000 lbs of food throughout the county to more than 19,500 people.

The El Pajaro Community Development Corporation is encouraging Latino businesses to apply for funds from the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) before the end of the month deadline. The non-profit says recent changes have made the program more useful. Small businesses, the self-employed, independent contractors, and sole proprietors are all eligible for forgivable loans through this Small Business Association (SBA) program. The non-profit is offering to help businesses navigate the application process.

Santa Cruz County is reporting, as of June 15, 260 known cases of COVID-19 in the county. That is an increase of 2 cases since June 13. Fatalities remain at 2. A total of 35 people have required hospitalization. 11,598 negative lab tests have been recorded.
MONTEREY COUNTY
3:50 p.m.
The Monterey County Business Council and partners will be hosting another webinar this Friday, June 19, from 10 - 11 a.m. entitled "Do I Need an IIPP?" (Answer: Yes. Yes you do.)". They will be focusing on Injury and Illness Prevention Programs (IIPP) for the workplace. Register here.

The City of Monterey says local hotels are reporting a very successful past weekend with some seeing occupancy rates of 80 to 90 percent. The city said restaurants also reported increased patrons, adding most visitors came from the Bay Area and Central Valley.
12:30 p.m.
The Monterey Sports Center will have a soft opening on Friday June 19 and Saturday June 20 and begin opening on a regular basis from Monday June 22. The facility will be open from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Just the cardio and weight rooms will be open. The pool, basketball courts, locker room and showers will remain closed. Visitors will need to make reservations online and will be screened before being admitted. The number of people using the facility at one time will be limited as will the amount of time allowed. The city hopes to open the swimming pool in early July.

COVID-19 cases in Monterey County have surpassed 1,000. As of June 16, the county is reporting 1,015 confirmed cases of the coronavirus. That is an increase of 20 cases over a 24 hour period. Fatalities remain at 12. The total number of people who have required hospitalization has reached 87. 598 people have recovered. 15,394 tests have been conducted.
SANTA CLARA COUNTY
9:50 a.m.
Santa Clara County is reporting, as of June 15, 3,230 cases of COVID-19. A total of 151 people have died from the coronavirus. The county says this is an increase of 34 new cases and no new deaths. 49 people are currently hospitalized because of the virus, 15 in ICU. 102,848 people have been tested for the coronavirus.
