Broadcast: May 8, 2022 at 4:00 p.m.

Who are our mothers and how have they shaped our lives? This Mother's Day we hear 10 people from around the world talk about their mothers -- the good, the bad, and the messy -- and who they are because of their mothers.

We hear about mothers who died too young, who loved eating tacos, who were called by their first names. We hear the story of a mother in China with "bad fate." We hear the story of a mother in Burundi who won't report her neighbors to the police for burning down her house. We hear about having a "goat in the room" between a mother and son in Brazil. We hear about a mother who adopts an adult son into her clan. We hear about a mother and daughter protesting the Iraq war together.

Through the stories of 10 people from the US, Denmark, Burundi, Brazil, China, Mexico, the Czech Republic, and Wales we reflect on our relationships with the women who gave us life and influenced how we live it.

These are non-narrated, sound-rich audio snapshots from the Mother Mine participatory audio art project run by Katie Semro.
