KEY DEADLINES:

  • October 5: Early voting begins.
  • October 19: Deadline to register. (You can register the day you vote if you go in-person. It's called "same day voter registration.")
  • October 27: Last day to request a mail-in ballot. (If you didn’t automatically receive one.)
  • November 3: Last day to vote!
  • November 29: Deadline to cure a missing or non-comparing signature.
  • December 1: Deadline to certify presidential contest.

Since California’s primary was earlier this year, many voters felt their voice really counted this time around. KAZU’s Erika Mahoney visited a Monterey Bay area polling place on Super Tuesday to get a taste of how voters, old and new, made their mark.

*Santa Cruz County and Monterey County election results have been certified. As a note, jurisdictions who haven't certified their results yet do have until April 24, 2020 to do so, which may affect statewide results.

 

Over a dozen states held nominating contests on Super Tuesday (March 3, 2020), including California.

 

Bernie Sanders won California’s Democratic Prediential Primary election, the largest state with the largest delegate haul. He received 35.8% of the vote.

Congressman Jimmy Panetta was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2016. The Congressman is facing his second re-election contest for California’s 20th Congressional District seat.

Jeff Gorman is the past chair of the Monterey County Republican Party and a small business owner. He is running, for the first time, for the U.S. House of Representatives. He’s vying for the 20th Congressional District seat. The district includes Monterey and San Benito Counties, and parts of Santa Cruz and Santa Clara Counties.

Local environmental advocate Adam Bolaños Scow is running, for the first time, for California’s 20th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. The district includes Monterey and San Benito Counties, and parts of Santa Cruz and Santa Clara Counties.
