Madama Butterfly at West Bay Opera

Madama Butterfly at West Bay Opera

In early 1900’s Nagasaki, an American naval officer weds a young Japanese woman. Months later he leaves her, unaware that she is pregnant with his son, and promises to come back. Three years later, nearly destitute and shunned by her family for becoming a Christian, she remains steadfast in her conviction that he will return. He does return, with a new American wife, remorseful but ready to take his son back with him. Butterfly gives up the child and commits suicide. Puccini's ravishingly beautiful masterpiece is presented fully staged with a stellar cast headlined by soprano Toni Marie Palmertree (Merola and Met) and tenor Tom Mulder. Original setting, with gorgeous costumes, sets and projections. Orchestra and chorus. Stage director: Rick Harrell. Conductor José Luis Moscovich.
