Helen Barrington

Helen Barrington brings a wealth of news and content experience from roles at Radio Netherlands, GBH in Boston, and stations in Western Massachusetts, Philadelphia, Richmond, Virginia and, most recently, at CapRadio in Sacramento.

Helen's a student of allyship and has undertaken efforts to ensure diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging are at the forefront of hiring decisions and in the workplace cultures where she has been employed.

She has written, produced and edited long and short form stories and digital articles on a wide range of topics, including politics, arts and culture, infrastructure projects, led breaking news, special event and election coverage. Also in her portfolio is mentoring students and early career journalists. And she's done a lot of on-air fundraising

“I’m a passionate advocate for non-profit, public service journalism and its intersection with the democratic process,” Helen says. “I want to be an active part of creating a pathway for the next generations of journalists, to provide critical information to communities, across platforms and geographies.”

Having lived in Santa Cruz years ago, she says she looks forward to meeting people in communities throughout the KAZU listening area and reconnecting with folks from long ago.
