Monterey, CA – A group of local investors wants to buy the Monterey County Herald - and if it doesn't succeed, it's considering starting a new paper. The Sacramento-based McClatchy Co. announced earlier this month it would sell the Herald, along with 11 others it's acquiring from current owner Knight Ridder. And three groups appear to be interested: Denver-based MediaNews, a private newspaper company run by William Dean Singleton; a worker-friendly partnership between the Newspaper Guild and a Southern California equity firm called Yucaipa; and a local group led by Pacific Grove developer Nader Agha. KAZU's Ben Adler reports.
