Senator Robert Dole of Kansas has unofficially captured the Republican Presidential nomination. After Tuesday night's primaries, he carries more than the necessary 980 delegates. Mr. Dole is now on his way to being a leader in the White House. We talk with people who know Mr. Dole well in Congress the place where he is an effective leader. Linda Wertheimer talks with Sen. Alan Simpson of Wyoming, a friend and colleague of Mr. Dole's, and with Jake Thompson of the Kansas City Star, a journalist who has followed Dole for several years and has written a biography about Mr. Dole.

Koreans living in this country watched with mixed feelings earlier this month when South Korean families were briefly reunited with their North Korean relatives after 50 years. There are no diplomatic relations between communist North Korea and the United States, and currently U.S. the government does not offer assistance to Korean-Americans seeking reunification with their families. Host Jacki Lyden visits the Korean Central Presbyterian Church in Vienna, Virginia, where she speaks to Koreans who hope the U.S. government will change its policy and begin assisting them in trying to locate their lost relatives.

NPR's Jim Zarroli reports AT&T's corporate board is still weighing various restructuring options, ranging from sticking with the status quo to a plan that would break the company into several parts. The AT&T board is expected to vote this evening and make an announcement Wednesday morning. Some Wall Street analysts were skeptical of the more radical restructuring proposals because they represented a retreat from the company's recent strategy of selling packages of local, long-distance, wireless and internet services.

Linda Wertheimer talks wtih Vikram Parekh, Researcher on South Asia for Human Rights Watch about Human Rights Watch's lastest report, Massacres of Hazaras in Afghanistan, which gives eye witness accounts of a massacre in January in the central highlands of Afghanistan, as well as new evidence related to an earlier massacre last May. During both events, the victims were primarily Hazaras, a Shia Muslim ethnic group, previously targeted by Taliban forces for abuse. Afghan humanitarian aid workers were also killed.

It's been twenty-five years since Sissy Spacek's memorable performance in the 1976 horror film Carrie, based on a Stephen King novel. Her new film is In The Bedroom, a family drama/tragedy. It won several awards in this year's Sundance festival. Spacek won an Oscar for her performance in Coal Miner's Daughter, and she's been nominated for Best Actress 5 times. She got her start in the film Badlands. She's had roles in numerous films and TV dramas, including Three Women, Raggedy Man, Night Mother, and The Straight Story.

The actor plays Muddy Waters in the new film Cadillac Records, which tells the story of Chicago's Chess Records, where Waters launched his career alongside Etta James, Chuck Berry and others.

Democratic Sen. Hillary Clinton emerged as the winner of the Ohio and Texas presidential primaries, two needed for her to stay competitive in the race. Republican side, John McCain won all four primary contests last night, definitively earning the Republican nomination. Political strategists discuss Clinton's comeback.

President Bush promises swift action and assistance to those in fire-ravaged southern California. Joined by Calif. Gov. Arnold Schwazenegger, he toured the charred remains of neighborhoods and met with distraught residents.

NPR's Ann Cooper reports from Moscow on the Russian presidential campaign. Russian President Boris Yeltsin today used the power of his incumbency to fire some hard-line generals, sign a decree to pull Russian troops out of Chechnya and sent money to some miners so they'll get paid before the run-off election. Communist candidate Gennady Zyuganov has been nearly invisible, but appears to be positioning himself for a role in the government if he loses to Yeltsin. Russian voters go to the polls a week from tomorrow to choose between Yeltsin and Zyuganov for the presidency of that nation.
