Watsonville healthcare workers plan strike, Big Sur road closures

In today's newscast, healthcare workers at Watsonville Community Hospital consider a three-day strike over expired contracts. And, the Big Sur Byway Organization evaluates the impact of road closures on local businesses. Caltrans is planning an overnight closure of Highway 1 at Rocky Creek on Friday.

Elena is an Emmy award-winning researcher, reporter, and producer. Before joining KAZU, they worked as a podcast producer at The Oregonian. Their reporting and research has been featured on NPR, KQED, Netflix, Reveal, CalMatters, and more. Elena is an alum of the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism and UC Santa Cruz.
Eduardo Gonzalez-Torres joined the KAZU newsroom in January 2025 as a student intern. He transferred to CSUMB in the fall of 2024 from Porterville College and is excited to embark on his journalism journey. Eduardo is contributing to daily news coverage and KAZU's social media.
