A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed
A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed
A silver lining to the summer of 2020 was the birth of the Manzanita Music Collective. Two friends who were determined to keep the music playing, cellist Michelle Djokic and violinist, Edwin Huizinga launched a series of porch concerts in Carmel by the Sea. They sold out two concerts every Thursday afternoon and evening to friends and neighbors throughout the entire summer. This musical bond fed our hearts and minds and hopefully fed the community that supported our efforts and joined in the celelbration. This short film captures some of our favorite moments together: https://concordiaplayers.org/chamberfest-2020/
For this special almost May Day (M'aidez) event the spectacular young Romanian pianist Alina Bercu
is joining forces with Michelle Djokic for a program that presents the elegant lyricism of George Enescu to the luminous stillness of Arvo Pärt, this program explores a rich spectrum of musical expression. Spanish color from Isaac Albéniz, the romantic charm of Sergei Rachmaninoff as heard through Fritz Kreisler, and the sparkling virtuosity of Lukas Foss come together in an intimate journey for cello and piano, culminating in the serene and timeless meditation of Spiegel im Spiegel.
We ask that in lieu of paying for admission that you either bring cash or a check made out to Edwin Huizinga in the amount that works for you - suggested $40. The inabaility to work through medical treatments has been very taxing on Edwin and this type of support is extremely helpful both financially and spiritually. We thank you in advance for your support.
