Alliance On Aging to Host Two Community Lunch & Learn Events Focused on Monterey County’s Growing Aging Population
SALINAS, Calif. — Alliance On Aging will host two upcoming Lunch & Learn events designed to help business leaders, nonprofits and community members better understand the growing needs of Monterey County’s aging population and the role local partnerships play in supporting older adults.
The sessions will be led by Executive Director MJ Donohue and will provide practical insights into aging trends, service gaps and the programs helping seniors remain safe, independent and connected.
The first Lunch & Learn will take place Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce, 119 E. Alisal St. in Salinas. A second session, titled Food for Thought Luncheon, will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, 353 Camino El Estero in Monterey.
Monterey County’s senior population continues to grow rapidly, with more older adults living alone, navigating complex health care systems and managing life on fixed incomes. Alliance On Aging has served as the county’s trusted hub for aging services and advocacy since 1970, working to ensure older adults have access to information, support and safety-net programs.
“These conversations are essential for our entire community,” Donohue said. “Aging is not just a personal issue — it impacts workplaces, families, health systems and the economic vitality of Monterey County. We want to help local organizations understand the landscape and be part of meaningful solutions.”
Topics at the events will include how aging trends affect local businesses and families; the role of the Alliance On Aging HUB program in providing education, classes and support; services available at no cost in English and Spanish; identifying gaps in care and advocacy; and opportunities for membership, volunteerism and community partnerships.
The May 13 Food for Thought Luncheon will also explore challenges seniors face related to isolation, financial insecurity and access to nutrition and benefits, along with the advocacy work of the Ombudsman Program and peer counseling services.
Both events are free to attend. Complimentary lunch and light refreshments will be provided at the May session. Registration is required.
