J.S. Bach's St. John Passion in Santa Cruz
C4 (Central Coast Chamber Choir), the chamber ensemble of I Cantori di Carmel, presents J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion in an intimate performance at Calvary Episcopal Church in Santa Cruz.
With a small choir and baroque ensemble performing on period instruments, this approach brings clarity and immediacy to one of Bach’s most powerful works. The St. John Passion unfolds as both narrative and reflection, carried by the Evangelist and shaped by the chorus and soloists throughout.
The performance is led by Daniel Henriks and features tenor Steven Caldicott Wilson as the Evangelist, joined by Morgan Balfour (soprano), Gabriela Estephanie Solís (alto), and Matt Peterson (bass).
A pre-concert lecture at 6:45 PM will be given by tenor and music historian David Gordon, who has sung the Evangelist in over 200 performances across the United States.
Following the performance, audience members are invited to stay for a reception and meet the performers.
