ECI Main Concert #1: When Mozart Meets the Magic Flute
ECI Main Concert #1: When Mozart Meets the Magic Flute
Five world premieres of chamber music works written by emerging composers, paired with Mozart’s Flute Quartet in D Major K 285!
This, the first of two culminating concerts, will feature world premieres by program participants performed by ECI faculty members Tien-Hsin Cindy Wu (violin), Eunice Kim (violin), David Samuel (viola), Mihai Marica (cello), Drew Petersen (piano) and Catherine Gregory (flute).
Please note that audience members who attend both of ECI's main concerts (on July 7th and July 8th) will receive a Performance Today Prize ballot to vote for their favorite emerging composer’s work, to be featured on NPR's classical music radio program Performance Today in the 2023-2024 season. Ballots will be collected and results will be announced following the concert on July 8th, at a reception in the theatre.
Designed for dedicated composers aged 18-31, The Emerging Composers Intensive (ECI) at Hidden Valley is an important extension to the conservatory education that aims to complete a young composer's skill set on the path to a professional career. ECI focuses on the crucial connection between individual creativity and effective collaboration by having composers work closely with renowned composition and performing faculty throughout their writing process to strengthen the necessary foundations of instrumental understanding, notation, and communication skills.
