Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra presents 'Pastures of Heaven' a new work by EMMY award-winning composer John Wineglass
Please join us for the world premiere of a new work by John Wineglass, inspired by the words of John Steinbeck and California's rich hisotry. Emmy award-winning composer Wineglass, a long-time member of Ensemble Monterey, created Pastures of Heaven to celebrate our musical future with a vision of a past hero.
Pastures of Heaven will combine the forces of Ensemble Monterey, Cantiamo! and the Cabrillo Youth Chorus to bring you an unforgettable performance. Our musical past is represented by Charles Ives’ Third Symphony, the Camp Meeting. This revolutionary work is considered by many to be the beginning of original music in America.
Finally, our concert will feature an often-requested performance of Richard Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll, the composer’s heartfelt birthday present to his wife, Cosima.
The title is taken from Steinbeck's short story cycle, with tales set in Salinas, Monterey, Carmel Valley, and throughout the west, and each of the eight movements in the work highlights part of California that was special to Steinbeck and other legendary California poets.
Join us an hour before the event for notes from the conductor, John Anderson as well as from the composer, John Wineglass himself.
