Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra presents 'Soloists & Strings'
Soloists and Strings presents four compositions with origins ranging from the late Renaissance to 20th Century America.
We begin with Peter Warlock’s Capriol Suite, a delightful arrangement of Renaissance dances for string orchestra. Next comes Gian Carlo Menotti’s Cantilena and Scherzo. From the composer of Amahl and the Night Visitors, the Cantilena is a lyrical solo for harp and strings. The concert continues on a more serious note with Richard Strauß’s Metamorphosen. This is one of the composer’s final great works, written for string orchestra in the year of his death in 1945. The final work is Aaron Copland’s Clarinet Concerto, originally written for Benny Goodman.
Bruce Foster, Ensemble Monterey’s original principal clarinetist, returns to reprise his performance of 1999.
