Film Screening and Panel Discussion: “Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink” -- Wednesday, September 24th at Del Mar Theatre in Santa Cruz
“Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink,” is a Film that chronicles the damage caused by hedge fund ownership of once-proud Community Newspapers, with a particular focus on Alden Global Capital, parent of local papers.
Hosted by Lookout Santa Cruz in partnership with CalMatters, this gripping Documentary exposes the corporate dismantling of Local News and what’s at stake for Democracy when Local Watchdogs disappear.
The evening includes a post-film panel and an engaging audience discussion about what’s next for California and Santa Cruz led by Lookout Santa Cruz CEO Ken Doctor, Managing Editor Tamsin McMahon, and CalMatters CEO Neil Chase, three leaders on the front lines of rebuilding sustainable journalism in California.
