Hi friends, family and acquaintances,

This coming Sunday August 17 I am putting on a Jug Band Festival at Abbott Square (not alone, the Trolley Drop band is helping out). The other 3 bands are coming from Sacramento, Petaluma, and Oakland and are super amazing and entertaining musicians. It is going to be eye opening good fun and I hope you will find some time during the day to stop in and listen.

Since it is the third Sunday the Plateau Jazz Band will be playing trad jazz and swing dance tunes from 5:30-8 at Pono Hawaiian Grill DTSC 120 Union St. in downtown Santa Cruz, with a free swing dance lesson from 5:30-6 being taught by Santa Cruz Swing dance instructors.

On a personal note, Donna and I found time this summer to backpack together out of Florence Lake, over Seldon Pass on the John Muir Trail. The vast panoramas of granite in the back country are awe inspiring, and the best views are not easy to get to because they are a 2-3 day hike from a trail head.
