John Turkey's Nightmares live!

John Turkey's Nightmares live!

This'll be fun.

John Turkey's Nightmares will do the serenading from the stage while you, dear music-lover, if you desire, will lounge on the lawn with, quite possibly, a charcuterie board at arm's- length, for what will be a free afternoon of holiday weekend music. Check it!

John Turkey’s Nightmares is the solo project of Oakland-based musician Sam Carpenter. Drawing deep inspiration from both the '60s and '90s, JTN weaves together the raw edge of Nirvana and Modest Mouse with the melodic sensibilities of The Kinks or Neil Young. Contemporary comparisons include MJ Lenderman and Mac DeMarco, though JTN’s sound ultimately carves its own path.

His albums are eclectic and immersive—ranging from lo-fi, Daniel Johnston-esque confessionals, to eerie instrumentals that feel straight out of a Twin Peaks soundtrack, to stripped-down Billy Bragg-style acoustic moments and rock-outs reminiscent of Thee Oh Sees.

Currently, he’s re-releasing his debut album, Rockapeejay: Reissue, a remastered and significantly trimmed version of the original—down by 40 tracks to make it more digestible without losing its spirit.

This June, JTN is hitting the road for a Northern California tour, performing a mix of intimate solo acoustic sets and full-band shows.

His music isn't made for background noise or party playlists. It’s best experienced alone, preferably while driving at night. It's a little rough around the edges, unapologetically so, and meant to be felt as much as it’s heard.
