“Rosary Colored Glasses” offers a nostalgic—and candid—look at childhood, culture and coming of age in Miami
CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif. — What do we remember about the world in which we grew up—and how did that time and place shape who we became? The Carmel Foundation welcomes local author Janet Rossi Tezak for “Rosary Colored Glasses” on Wednesday, November 11, at 2:30 p.m. in Diment Hall. The program is free and open to the public, with refreshments served.
Tezak will share insights from her memoir, Rosary Colored Glasses: Growing Up Catholic in Miami, Florida, in the 1950s and ’60s, the third of her three published books. Through the author’s eyes, readers experience an evolving city, era and culture, beginning with her first year of school and ending with the summer of her senior year.
More than a look at one childhood, Tezak hopes her story will encourage readers to remember their own early years and reflect on the attitudes and experiences of a different era—both good and bad.
A longtime local educator as well as an author, Tezak taught English at Monterey Peninsula College for 30 years and has published two other books.
