Performances at Sunset Center in Carmel at San Carlos and 9th Ave.

Carmel/Monterey, CA – Monterey Symphony starts their 2025 concerts on Saturday, February 15th, 2025 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, February 16th, at 3:00 PM at Sunset Center in Carmel.

“Our February program features one of the most beloved pieces of orchestral music, Brahms’ Symphony No. 1. This symphony has resonated with audiences across the ages with its message of triumph in the face of adversity,” says Music Director Jayce Ogren. The piece firmly established Brahms as the Romantic master and worthy successor to Beethoven.

A battery of bells, drums, and wood forges provide a striking contrast in Avner Dorman’s lively new percussion concerto. “We are thrilled to welcome Cynthia Yeh—principal percussionist of the Chicago Symphony—as soloist in Dorman’s colorful and grooving Eternal Rhythm, featuring a kaleidoscopic array of percussion instruments,” says Ogren.

The program also includes ‘American maverick’ Charles Ives’ musical contemplation of existence, The Unanswered Question, and Giovanni Gabrieli’s Canzon Septimi Toni No. 2 with its glorious brass ensembles,” says Ogren.

“The concerts close with Brahms’ rollicking Hungarian Dance No. 5, providing the final flourish to the evening,” says Ogren.

Pre-Concert Lectures – Lectures are included with all concert tickets and are held on Saturday, 6:30-7:00 PM, and Sunday, 2:00-2:30 PM, in the Sunset Center auditorium. Free and open to the public.

Saturday Night Talk Back - Immediately following the Saturday evening concert, all ticket holders are welcome to join Conductor Jayce Ogren and Symphony President soloist Cynthia Yeh in the lobby for a Talk Back. Patrons will have the opportunity to ask questions about the concert in a Q&A style format.

Sunday Pre-concert Music - On Sundays, the Symphony offers Lobby Sessions with Live Music in the lobby from 1:45-2:00 PM & 2:30-2:45 PM. The February concert Lobby Session features Symphony principal second violin Zlata Grekov. Arrive early to hear our musicians up close while enjoying refreshments from the Sunset Center Café. Free and open to the public.

Tickets are $45 for Tier 3, $68 for Tier 2, and $88 for Tier 1 seats. Students, teachers, and military tickets are $12.
