Carmel/Monterey, CA – Monterey Symphony celebrates Women’s History Month with a concert and party. Concerts are Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 7:30 PM and Sunday, March 17, 2024, at 3:00 PM. On Saturday night, the Symphony hosts its 6th Annual Women’s Night Out pre-concert party: VIBES, from 6:00-7:30 PM.

CONCERT:

The Santa Lucia Preserve stretches from Carmel south to San Luis Obispo County. Lucia is Latin for "light," and Santa Lucia was famous for lighting her way to Christians hiding in Roman catacombs by wearing a candlelit wreath. With works such as Mozart's dramatic yet comedic Overture to Don Giovanni and David Robertson's Light Forming, Music Director Jayce Ogren compares the works on this program to the artistic technique of chiaroscuro—light and shadow. Listeners can feel connections between finding hope amid the darkness like in George Walker's achingly beautiful Lyric for Strings, honoring important relationships that are full of light, as well as those that are full of darkness. The concert features pianist Orli Shaham for the Robertson as well as Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, K. 466.

“Orli Shaham is one of the greatest pianists in America today, and she’ll be our featured soloist on Mozart’s beloved Piano Concerto #20 in D minor, as well as a new work by her husband (and acclaimed conductor) David Robertson,” says Ogren.

WOMEN’S NIGHT OUT, VIBES:

For the 6th time, the Monterey Symphony is highlighting local women-owned businesses in our community by hosting Women’s Night Out. This year’s theme VIBES will transform Studio 105 into a vibey discoteca. The party features DJ Gwynneth, California Seltzer Company, light bites by Meli Czerwiak, a photobooth and more surprises await! All are welcome. The pre-concert party is from 6:00 – 7:30 PM in Studio 105 at the Sunset Center in Carmel.

Tickets to Women’s Night Out: $40 with discount code VIBES. Tickets include the pre-concert party and the Symphony concert in Tier 2 or 3 seats only. Tickets to the Women’s Night Out pre-concert party are limited and will sell out. The pre-concert party is all-inclusive. Drinks, food and entertainment are included.
