Exactly 50 years ago, a group of scientists, legal experts, and journalists convened at Asilomar to discuss concerns raised about new recombinant DNA technology. Today, another diverse group of professionals will meet at the same location to grapple with similar questions of risk and regulation, at an event called “The Spirit of Asilomar and the Future of Biotechnology” (http://spiritofasilomar.org). Prior to convening that expert meeting, the organizers invite you to revisit the historic 1975 conference with them through a series of stimulating conversations and artistic interventions.
