The Watsonville Film Festival, now in its 12th season, will present more than 40 short films that challenge stereotypes and reflect the diversity of the Latino experience. This year’s feature film La Mission is about Lowriders and male identity. It inspired the art exhibit, β€œMore Than Cars: Celebrating Lowrider Culture.” See film list & times: https://watsonvillefilmfest.org/wff2024

β€œThe Watsonville Film Festival is on a mission to showcase local talent and creativity through film, art and music.” says Consuelo Alba, Festival Director and Chair of the Arts Council of Santa Cruz County. β€œWe partnered with Pajaro Valley Arts gallery to present β€œMore Than Cars,” an exhibit which reflects how Lowrider culture is a symbol of pride and ingenuity. It’s art on wheels.”

Award-winning Director Peter Bratt (La Mission; Dolores) will be honored at the Watsonville Film Festival on Saturday, March 9 at 5:30pm with a Red Carpet photo op at Cinelux Green Valley Cinema. There will be a Q&A with Bratt and Roberto Hernandez, President of the San Francisco Lowrider’s Council, who lobbied to lift a state ban on cruising which became law on Jan. 1, 2024.
