The Tor House Annual Garden Party takes place on Sunday May 7th in Carmel
Join us for the annual Tor House Garden Party -- Carmel’s unique springtime celebration of poetry, flowers and history.
Tor House will open its doors and gardens to the public allowing you to stroll the gardens at their spring peak, climb Hawk Tower to enjoy the magnificent view of Carmel Bay and Point Lobos, and see the house and tower rooms that Robinson Jeffers and his family loved so much.
Learn about Poet Robinson Jeffers and his wife Una from our knowledgeable docents. Watch Plein Air Artists at work and a Master Weaver spinning yarn on a “walking wheel” brought from Ireland in 1847. You will also be treated to very special Music Programs including a Bagpiper, Pianists playing Una’s fully-restored 1904 Steinway Model O Grand Piano, plus a Celtic Trio.
Shop in the bookstore for a copy of the limited edition, hand -printed broadside by Santa Cruz Printers Peter and Donna Thomas that includes Jeffers’ Poem “The Polar Ice-Caps” with along with a beautil print by created by Tom Killion. Tea and wonderful sweet and savory treats Sweet Elena’s Bakery will be served in the Jeffers’ dining room, and there will be punch and more sweets and tea sandwiches available in the garden.
Entrance to the Garden Party is $15.00. No advance reservations are necessary. No one under 12, please.
There is no better way to taste the atmosphere of early 20th century Carmel or appreciate the poetry of Robinson Jeffers than to come to Tor House, set on the shore of an ocean and an outcropping of land that gave Jeffers constant inspiration.
