Campus Cleanup Day
Wednesday, Apr 22 from 11AM–1PM
Celebrate Earth Day by joining us for our next Campus Cleanup as we work together to keep CSUMB’s campus clean, welcoming, and beautiful. All students, staff, and faculty are invited to take part, bring a friend and make an impact!
Support CSUMB’s commitment to sustainability and our goal of 90% waste diversion from landfill by 2030. By collecting litter and recyclables, you’ll help reduce pollution, protect local wildlife, and keep our shared spaces beautiful.
Team up with fellow Otters to remove litter from Main Campus, all cleanup supplies will be provided, and everyone is welcome to join!
Volunteers will be walking around campus, bending, and picking up litter, so wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. We also recommend bringing a reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and a hat to stay comfortable during the cleanup.

The Carmel Valley Women’s Club Foundation is hosting its 3rd Annual Hoedown Party at the Hidden Valley Music Seminars site at 104 W Carmel Valley Rd. This year’s event is April 19, 2026, from 5:30-8:30 pm. Join us for a BBQ dinner, music, dancing and our fabulous silent auction. A wine and beer no-host bar will be available.
Tickets are $75 each and are currently on sale until April 15, 2026. Tickets can be purchased at cvwomensclub.org
The proceeds of the Hoedown go to fund Carmel Women’s Club Foundation College and Continuing Education Scholarships. Since 2013, the Foundation has donated over $270,000 for local women to pursue post-high school education or certification programs. High school graduates, pending high school graduates, and GED recipients with financial need are free to apply. Scholarship criteria and application information is available on the Monterey Women’s Club website at cvwomensclub.org . The deadline for application is March 16, 2026.

The Public is invited to attend the Hanamatsuri Festival at the Watsonville Buddhist Temple on Saturday, April 11th and Sunday April 12th commemorating the Birth of the Historical Buddha

Hanamatsuri commemorates the Birth of the historical Buddha and will be observed at the Watsonville Buddhist Temple on April 11th and April 12th. This unique, colorful and meaningful Festival celebrates with Flowers, Food, Cultural Exhibits and Demonstrations.
The Hanamido (Flower Pavilion) shelters a Statue of the baby Buddha. Visitors can pour sweet tea over the statue, symbolizing the gentle rain, perfumed by flower petals, that is said to have fallen in Lumbini Garden when Siddhartha Gautama, the future Buddha was born. There will be a variety of food for sale including limited Bento boxes as well as Hapa Bros. Food Truck offering Asian Fusion Cuisine.
Vendors will include Nikkei Traditions, Tangled Messes, and Hug a Sumo. Cultural Exhibits will include Ikebana, Bonsai, Mataro Kimekomi Doll Making, Boy Scouts, and Kokoro No Gakko as well as performances by Watsonville Taiko and demonstrations on stage in the Temple’s gym.
A Tour of the Temple’s Hondo (Primary Hall) that houses the beautiful Altar of the Temple is open to the Public on Saturday, April 11th at 11:30 am. The public is invited to attend the Hanamatsuri Festival free of charge on Saturday, April 11th from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm and the Sunday Service on April 12th at 10:00am with Guest Speaker Reverend Brian Nagata.

Professor Winograd’s early work helped shape the field of natural language processing and inspired generations of researchers. In this engaging program, he’ll explore how AI systems use language, how that shapes human understanding, and why ethical reflection is more important than ever. AI is more than just Code -- it’s a System of Communication, Influence, and Possibility. Understanding it is essential to engaging with the present and shaping the Future.
Terry Winograd is Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at Stanford University, where he founded the Human-Computer Interaction Group. A pioneer in artificial intelligence and natural language understanding, he completed his PhD at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab and co-authored the influential book Understanding Computers and Cognition. He is a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) - the world’s largest and most prestigious professional organization for computing professionals - and the Stanford Human-Centered AI Institute. Professor Winograd has also served as National President of Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility and consulted for many companies, including Google.
