Join us on Monday, October 26 for a free screening of Our Effed Up World (2026, 67 min) presented by Frameline – San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival.

For the fifth year, Frameline Fangs returns to California State University, Monterey Bay. We’re thrilled to bring Alice Maio Mackay’s latest film Our Effed Up World to the CSUMB World Theater! Don’t miss this queer sci-fi horror comedy produced by Jane Schoenbrun (Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, I Saw the TV Glow) that critics are calling “bleak, chaotic, and unsettling in all the right ways” (Film Threat), “underpinned with a starry-eyed wonder” (Screen Hub), and “combines everything you love about Doctor Who, the CW, and Kevin Smith’s hang-out comedies” (Dread Central).

Frameline’s Executive Director, Allegra Madsen, will be visiting CSUMB to present the film and meet with students to discuss the world of film festivals. The film screening will be preceded by a student-run costume contest at 6:30pm. So, put on your Halloween best and join us for an unforgettable evening of seasonal cinematic fun!

This year’s installment of “Night of the Living Composers” showcases the imaginative expertise of our community’s finest musical talents.

Two of the evening’s works utilize the NMW String Quartet, which features the four local string players of the incredible Marea Ensemble:

Violinists Shannon D’Antonio and Samantha Bounkeua; violist, Rebecca Dulatre Corbin and cellist Kristin Garbeff.

In Ivan Rosenblum’s, "Aus hebräischen gesängen,” the composer draws from Robert Schumann's song of that title. "Rosenblum's treatment of the Schumann song is a metaphor for the atrocities of the Holocaust. It also evokes the historic transition from late Romantic music to the atonal experiments of the early 20th century to elucidate ironies and atrocities of that era."

Join us for a night of unpredictable fun and laughter when worlds collide at the Improv ProAm— where the Controlled Chaos Improv players are joined onstage with improv students!

Bring the whole family to Game Changers Day, a free community celebration hosted by First Tee – Monterey County at Twin Creeks Golf Course, 1551 Beacon Hill Drive, Salinas. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, kids can try golf with First Tee coaches, bounce in the inflatables and grab lunch from local food trucks. At 1:30 p.m., First Tee will draw finalists for its 2026 Lexus TX 500h raffle live on Instagram, and the winner will be the finalist whose key fob unlocks the car. Raffle tickets support youth programs across Monterey County and are available at firstteemontereycounty.org. Free admission.
