Don’t Let Congress Silence Public Media
A recent proposal from the White House has called for the rescission of more than $1 billion in previously approved funding for public media. If passed by Congress, this would eliminate essential federal support for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) — the nonprofit that helps sustain local public radio and television stations across the country, including KAZU.
Here at KAZU, CPB funding amounts to just over $260,000 this fiscal year. These dollars help pay for the trusted journalism, emergency communications, and cultural programming that our community depends on every day. Without it, the work we do becomes significantly harder. The impact would be felt across our newsroom, our programming, and our ability to serve you.

But there's still time to act.
Here’s how you can make a difference:
- Call your members of Congress. They hold the power to stop this funding rollback. Your call helps them understand why a strong, independent public media system is essential to our democracy.
- Send a message. Email your U.S. Representative and Senators and tell them what KAZU and public media mean to you, your family, and your community.
- Pitch in if you can. If this federal support is lost, we’ll be leaning more heavily on ourlocal community. Your donation now helps prepare KAZU for a more uncertain funding future.
- Share your support. Public media is for everyone. Talk to friends and family, especially those in other states. Post on social media. Encourage others to speak up before this proposal becomes law.
- Stay in the loop. Visit ProtectMyPublicMedia.com for up-to-date information and tools you can use to help protect KAZU and public media stations nationwide.
This is a critical moment for local public radio. With your help, we can ensure KAZU continues to inform, inspire, and connect the Monterey Bay Area — now and for generations to come.
