Congress has voted. Removing $1.1B in funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting

Congress has passed a bill that would eliminate more than $1 billion in previously approved funding for public media. The President will sign it into law. This will cut essential federal support for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) — the nonprofit that helps sustain local public radio and television stations across the country, including KAZU. Public media’s future is at stake — and your financial support is now more important than ever.

Here at KAZU, CPB funding amounts to just over $264,000 this fiscal year. These dollars helped pay for the trusted journalism, emergency communications, and cultural programming that our community depends on every day. Without it, the work we do now becomes significantly harder.

Here’s how you can make a difference:

  • This is a critical moment for local public radio. With your help, we can ensure KAZU continues to inform, inspire, and connect the Monterey Bay Area — now and for generations to come.
  • Pitch in if you can. With the loss of federal support, we’ll be leaning more heavily on our local community. Your donation now helps prepare KAZU for a more uncertain funding future.
  • Share your support. Public media is for everyone. Talk to friends and family, especially those in other states.
