Steve Bruemmer, 46, survived a shark attack while swimming off of Lover's Point in Pacific Grove.

Steve Bruemmer was released from Natividad hospital exactly three weeks after he was attacked by a shark off Lover’s Point in Pacific Grove.

Wearing a blue t-shirt with the words “shark attack survivor," the 62-year-old swimmer left the hospital in a wheelchair while hospital workers applauded. In an interview recorded by hospital staff, Bruemmer described the day of the attack and the good Samaritans who came to his rescue.

Surgeons spent two hours repairing the damage caused by the shark on the day of the attack. Natividad trauma surgeon Dr. Nicholas Rottler said “he was fortunate with his injuries that there was no damage to any major arteries, bones or organs.”
