Santa Cruz County Supervisor Bruce McPherson meeting with residents after the January storms.

As our region faces an ongoing natural disaster, communities in the Santa Cruz Mountains are still struggling to recover from one that’s nearly three years old. The CZU fires destroyed 911 homes in 2020. To date, only 24 have been rebuilt. We speak with Santa Cruz County Supervisor Bruce McPherson about the slow recovery in his district.

The Santa Cruz County supervisors are holding a study session at their meeting on March 14, where they will discuss reasons for CZU fire survivors' slow recovery, and how to improve it.

See the Agenda item here. The meeting starts at 9 a.m. You can join at this Zoom link.

Jerimiah Oetting is KAZU's director of digital and social media. He previously served as news director from June 2021 to August 2024.
