Valley Transit strike ripples into Monterey Bay area, and USDA cuts hit farmers

Monterey Bay area commuters are feeling the effects of a strike by Valley Transit Authority workers in Santa Clara County.

In today's newscast, a three-week old strike by Valley Transit Authority workers in Santa Clara County is having a vast ripple effect, disrupting the commutes of residents in Santa Cruz County and beyond. And, local farmers are dealing with massive cuts in USDA grant money under the Trump administration.

Eduardo Gonzalez-Torres joined the KAZU newsroom in January 2025 as a student intern. He transferred to CSUMB in the fall of 2024 from Porterville College and is excited to embark on his journalism journey. Eduardo is contributing to daily news coverage and KAZU's social media.
