The work of Sean Papillion (left) and Louise Shields (right) are on display for the 12th annual Black History Month art exhibition at the Gilroy Center for the Arts. Shields' painting behind them is titled "Be Bold" and was inspired by Claudette Colvin, a civil rights activist from Alabama who refused to give up her seat for a white woman on a bus when she was a teenager in the 1950s.

Highlights from this week's news roundup:

  • Monterey Bay FC has announced a new amateur women’s team, which debuts this season.
  • The 12th annual Black History Month art exhibition at the Gilroy Center for the Arts concludes Saturday at 4 p.m.
  • About 50 people would lose housing in Monterey and San Benito counties if federal homelessness funding changes take shape.
