SPCA Monterey County has received $500 from a special donation.

During a recent race weekend, the Wives and Girlfriends of the International Motor Sports Association drivers presented the Laguna Seca x SPCA Center Fashion Show.

Beth Brookehouser with SPCA Monterey County appreciates the connection between racing and the nonprofit animal shelter.

“So our friends at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, and at Casa Munras Hotel, asked us to be here as part of this great event today,” she said. “It’s a fundraiser for the animals at the SPCA, and we’re featuring five amazing dogs.”

Race car driver Mason Filippi watched his wife and her canine companion walk down the runway. He says the show helps build a sense of community.

“We’re here to raise awareness for the dog shelter, and it’s super cool, I think, that we get the whole community together,” he said. “We have a boutique from Carmel. We have a hotel here in Monterey. We have a dog shelter with some really cute dogs.”

Another IMSA racer, Madeline Stuart, says this fashion show adds to the fun of the race weekend.

“Well, I love this. I mean, it’s right up my alley. There’s a few things, racing, fashion, dogs… you can pretty much put everything in that I love,” she said. “It’s great to see families involved in this. The drivers’ partners are here, and it’s nice because the sport can be a little lonely, we do a lot of travel.”
