In today's newscast:

In less than a week, people across Monterey Bay will be voting in California’s primary election

Eligible voters who missed the May 18 registration deadline can vote in-person at a voting location within their county on Election Day, June 2nd. They can also access voter services like in-person voting, getting a replacement ballot, and conditional registration at special polling locations in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties during the week.

Beginning Friday, May 29th, Monterey County Elections will open their satellite office at the Embassy Suites in Seaside. On Saturday May 30, 14 pre-election Vote Centers across Santa Cruz County will open.

Check the Monterey and Santa Cruz county websites for location-specific information and hours.

The state Assembly has approved a bill proposing the creation of a specialty lowrider license plate

Our newsroom partner, CapRadio, reports that Los Angeles Democratic Assembly member Mark González authored a bill that would create the first-of-its-kind plates.

"Communities behind lowrider culture, especially Latino and Chicano communities, haven't always gotten the investment that they truly deserve," said González. "AB 2541 honors the lowrider community while also funding to reinvest in our communities across the Golden State."

The bill honors Chicano and Latino car culture. Los Angeles Democratic Assembly member Isaac Bryan spoke in support.

"I can tell you, riding down Crenshaw on a Sunday in a lowrider is more than just culture. This is one of those examples of Black and Brown solidarity," said Bryan. "I was also here two years ago when we stopped the criminalization of just driving around in a lowrider. "

To officially enter production, the Department of Motor Vehicles would need a minimum of 7,500 paid pre-orders. Proceeds from the plates would go to the Lowrider Arts and Culture Fund to support youth engagement, public exhibitions and cultural preservation efforts.
