Like Crazy is an improv love story between a British and American college student, whose love is challenged by a forced separation. No script was provided to the actors; their story is improvised and ad-lib based off an outline for how the story could end.
Variety's Andrew Barker says of the film, "...Doremus (film director) leaves out almost everything a more traditional romance would highlight, (the first kiss, the poetic declarations of love, the sex), and the film hits all the harder for zeroing in on the subtler, quieter moments in between."
Fresh Air's David Edelstein says, "Like Crazy has a lively syntax that could, in an ungrateful mood, be described as slick. But Doremus (film director) gets the tempos right. The movie jumps when it needs to and stops for long, awkward, agonizing scenes when it must."
