Firefighters Battle Loma Fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains

A wildfire burning on Loma Prieta Peak in the Santa Cruz Mountains is threatening homes and critical emergency radio towers.

CalFire Incident Updates

The Loma Fire has burned roughly 200 acres on the Santa Clara County side of the peak.   The mountain stands at 3,427 feet in elevation.  CalFire and other fire agencies are on the scene.  CalFire is doing helicopter drops of fire retardant. 

Santa Cruz County has sent out emergency calls to residents from Loma Prieta Avenue to Soquel San Jose Road.  The fire started around 2:45 Monday afternoon.
