
Layna Hughes
InternA third-year student at Cal State Monterey Bay, Layna Hughes (they/she) is honored to join KAZU News as a student intern for the spring 2025 semester. After graduating from Gavilan College in 2024 with an associates degree in Communication Studies, they transferred to CSUMB to pursue a bachelors degree in Humanities and Communications with a concentration in Journalism and Media Studies. Since transferring, they have published several stories in CSUMB’s student-run newspaper The Lutrinae and have been promoted to a staff writer position.
When they aren’t reporting, coordinating events or working as a full-time student (which is rarely ever), they enjoy swimming, reading romance novels and engaging in various creative hobbies such as making collages, painting and playing guitar.
