Docent Training at the Sanctuary Exploration Center

Docent Training at the Sanctuary Exploration Center

Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary is seeking volunteer docents to engage the public at their visitor center located across from the Santa Cruz Wharf. Over a five week training course, prospective volunteers will learn about marine science, get updates on the Sanctuary's research team, and develop confidence in science communication. This hybrid training starts April 7th and includes in-person sessions at the Exploration Center (Sundays from 2-5pm) and virtual presentations (Wednesdays from 6-8pm).

Docents receive year-round enrichments in marine topics and celebratory gatherings, and join a community of passionate ocean stewards. To learn more about becoming a part of the volunteer team, email rebecca.gustafson@noaa.gov.
