"Hensel's Dream" is an immersive journey into the dreamworld of 19th century composer Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, featuring a performance of her astonishing solo piano cycle “Das Jahr” (“The Year”) by local pianist Brianna Conrey, in collaboration with award-winning deaf visual artist and pianist Olivia Ting. Each piece in the cycle represents a different month, with drawings by Fanny’s artist husband Wilhelm Hensel and quotations from German Romantic poetry chosen to create a multimodal “picture” of the year. The illustrated manuscript upon which this performance is based was created in 1842 but not published until 1998. Olivia's poetic visuals will draw upon the illustrations, poetry, and colors of the original manuscript, while also inviting the audience to imagine Fanny Hensel's creative process.

This performance is the premiere of "Hensel's Dream" and is presented with support from Arts Council Santa Cruz County.
