The final ‘Festival of Winds’ Fellows concert of 2023!
Join us for the dazzling and inspiring culmination of 11 days of intensive musical preparation!
In this closing concert of the 2023 Festival of Winds at Hidden Valley, three gorgeous wind arrangements will be performed by the tremendously gifted festival fellows – 18 young participants selected from America’s most prestigious music institutions – and their extraordinary teachers.
The Festival of Winds takes place each summer on the campus of Hidden Valley Music Seminars in Carmel Valley, where students rehearse with, live alongside, and learn from, wind players from the country’s major orchestras, including:
Seth Morris (Principal Flute, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra)
Liam Boisset (Professor of Oboe, Princeton University)
Anton Rist (Principal Clarinet, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra)
Harrison Miller (Principal Bassoon, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra)
Rebekah Daley (Principal Horn, North Carolina Symphony)
This program, the final of four Festival concerts, will feature:
Petite Suite Gauloise, Op. 90 (1888) ~ Louis Théodore Gouvy
Quintet for Piano and Winds in E-flat Major, Op. 16 (1796) ~ Ludwig van Beethoven
Sinfonietta, Op. 188 (1873) ~ Joachim Raff
The Festival of Winds was launched in 2021 to augment summer educational opportunities for gifted young wind players. A collaboration between Elaine Douvas (Principal Oboe, The Metropolitan Opera) and Hidden Valley Music Seminars, this year's Festival brings 18 brilliant students and five master teachers together for 11 days of artistic exploration and four breathtaking public performances.
The Festival's concerts, on July 11th, 14th, 17th and 21st at 7:30pm in Hidden Valley's intimate theater, will present some of the most beautiful and interesting works composed for wind instruments.
