Women’s Night Out; Beethoven Violin Concerto, with Simone Porter

Women’s Night Out; Beethoven Violin Concerto, with Simone Porter

Carmel/Monterey, CA – Monterey Symphony celebrates its 7th Annual Women’s Night Out on Saturday, March 15th, 2025 from 6:00-7:30 PM with a concert to follow at 7:30 PM and repeats the concert on Sunday, March16th, at 3:00 PM at Sunset Center in Carmel.

Women’s Night Out: This is your sign to attend Women's Night Out at the Monterey Symphony! Come dressed to match your astrological sign and be transported to a starry night inside Studio 105. Elevate yourself to other realms with the music of DJ LUNA. This event is all-inclusive: drinks from Pour Girl cocktails and bites from Chic Charcuterique, tarot and palm readers, a photo booth, and more surprises! All this, plus a gorgeous Symphony concert to follow featuring violin superstar Simone Porter, Grieg's lovable Peer Gynt Suite, and Jessie Montgomery's moving Soul Force. Tickets are $35 with promo code: STAR Tickets include both the Symphony Concert and the Women’s Night Out Pre-Concert Party. (Limited to Tier 2 and 3 seats). This event sells out every year, so don't wait! All are welcome.

Concerts: Celebrating Women’s History Month continues with the concert, “our March program features two powerful works that celebrate heroism in distinct ways,” says Music Director and Conductor Jayce Ogren. “Beethoven’s masterful Violin Concerto casts the soloist as hero, striving to succeed and be heard despite adversity. The Beethoven will feature the return of star violinist Simone Porter after her successful Monterey Symphony debut in 2022,” continues Ogren. “And Jessie Montgomery’s Soul Force—her moving tribute to the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.—uses music to call for non-violent protest despite centuries of oppression,” says Ogren.

The concert also showcases “two Scandinavians endeavor to establish sovereign identities. Norway's Edvard Grieg captured the character of a fairy-tale adventurer in his imaginative music to Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt. Finland's Jean Sibelius composed the patriotic tone poem Finlandia in anticipation of his country's fight for independence,” writes Symphony Musicologist Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli.

Pre-Concert Lectures – Lectures are included with all concert tickets and are held on Saturday, 6:30-7:00 PM with Musicologist Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli, and Sunday, 2:00-2:30 PM with Music Director and Conductor Jayce Ogren, in the Sunset Center auditorium. Free and open to the public.

Saturday Night Talk Back - Immediately following the Saturday evening concert, all ticket holders are welcome to join Conductor Jayce Ogren and soloist Simone Porter in the lobby for a Talk Back. Patrons will have the opportunity to ask questions about the concert in a Q&A style format and are offered a complimentary glass of wine.

Sunday Pre-concert Music - On Sundays, the Symphony offers Lobby Sessions with Live Music in the lobby from 1:45-2:00 PM & 2:30-2:45 PM. The March concert Lobby Session features Symphony principal trumpet Dylan Girard. Arrive early to hear our musicians up close while enjoying refreshments from the Sunset Center Café. Free and open to the public.
