Each spring people of all ages and fitness levels join Big Sur Land Trust’s Race for Open Space – our largest annual fundraising event – to support healthy lands, healthy people, and healthy communities. This year's Race for Open Space will be on Saturday, May 9 on and around Palo Corona Regional Park’s backcountry with five courses: 1mi, 5k, 12k, 25k, and 35k+.

Are you holding onto boxes of sensitive documents? Not sure what to do with the shredded paper you've accumulated? (Shredded paper is not accepted in the curbside recycling bin.) Dispose of your confidential documents at our free Paper Shred Event on Saturday, May 9th from 9 am - 1 pm, at the City Hall Parking Lot (corner of Chestnut and Church St).

A maximum of 3 standard-size banker boxes (10″x 12″x 15″) per household for City of Santa Cruz residents only. Paper will be shredded in front of you and then responsibly recycled at a Steri-Cycle facility.

The event lasts until 1 p.m. or until the truck is full, whichever comes first. We hope to see you there!

Celebrate Mother Earth with MEarth this Mother's Day weekend! MEarth Day is a celebration of our mission to educate and inspire through environmental stewardship, featuring a variety of hands-on family friendly activities, live music, local food, MEarth's Organic Farmstand and more!

Visit the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History to explore the beauty and fine details of the natural world around us in this annual spring exhibit featuring works from over 50 local artists in a variety of mediums. Scientific illustration brings to life the intricacies of nature while deepening our knowledge and enriching connections. Every year, "The Art of Nature" exhibit continues to reveal new wonders—just like nature itself—offering fresh inspiration for curious minds. On view March 28 - May, 2026.

Monterey, California. May 9, 2026 12-5pm. Stokes Adobe, a restaurant & bar housed inside a historic downtown adobe is hosting a Spring Market with all women makers on Saturday, May 9th, just ahead of Mother’s Day Sunday.

The event is free and open to the public. There will be a unique & curated assortment of jewelry, ceramics, skincare, stationery, hand-dyed textiles, homegoods, vintage and more, all offered by local small businesses. Current & Copper Jewelry, Valley Botanicals Skincare, Maria Schoettler Illustration, Studio VC Ceramics and AKA Vintage are a few of the vendors who will be showing. The bar and restaurant will be open for food and beverages to enjoy while browsing or in the bar and patio area. This is a great event to discover local small brands and shop women-owned for your Spring or Mother’s Day gifting needs.

Join us for a fun community gathering! The Ben Lomond Village Alliance invites you to a special event at Park Hall on May 9, featuring Wendy’s Mountain Line Dance. Wendy will lead you through a variety of line dances. Come enjoy lively dancing and a fun time with neighbors and friends. All ages and experience levels are welcome. The 2026 season of The Western Stage at Hartnell College opens Saturday, May 9, with "Home, I’m Darling," a provocative look at domestic bliss and what it means to have it all.

There’s nothing accidental about the life Judy and her husband Johnny have built for themselves, but are their carefully laid plans really taking them where they want to go?

“Home, I’m Darling,” by British playwright Laura Wade, opened at the National Theater in London in 2018, and is a comedic, yet heartfelt exploration of gender roles, societal expectations and the complexities of the modern age.

Join the Carmel Orchid Society at its monthly meetings to learn how to grow orchids in our local environment. Meetings are held from 2:00pm to 4:00m on the First Saturday of the Month (except during Months with Social Events) at the Community Church of Carmel Valley. Monthly meetings feature Informative Speakers and an Opportunity to win Orchids, Food and Fun.

The Society also has a Picnic, Excursion and Holiday Dinner as well as sponsoring an Orchid Market in the Fall.
