A heat advisory is in effect over the weekend for the Salinas, Hollister and Carmel Valleys. Temperatures are expected to reach over 100 degrees in some areas. If you live in an area affected, you are advised to drink plenty of liquids, stay inside as much as possible and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Monterey County has opened cooling centers at the libraries in San Ardo, San Lucas and King City. Those centers will be open Friday through Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm. Additionally the City of Soledad has a cooling center at its community center. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. In Greenfield, the Community Science Workshop Cooling Station at 45 El Camino Real will operate on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
