Vega and Lewis Road Evacuated for Vegetation Fire

A vegetation fire was reported on Vega Road and Lewis Road just south of Pajaro around 1:30 this afternoon. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office issued an evacuation warning for 0-200 Vega Road and the 250 block of Hayes Road.

As of 3:30pm, the fire is reported to be between five and seven acres. Its progression has slowed.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office lifted the evacuation warning for Hayes Road at 3:18pm. The evacuation order for Vega Road turned into a "soft closure" at 3:37pm, with residents allowed to return to their homes. Emergency personnel remain in the area.

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office has established Prunedale Library as a temporary evacuation point.
